The Bardi Symphony Orchestra – New Horizons

The Bardi Symphony Orchestra are delighted to announce their 2024/25 concert season, New Horizons. This season the Orchestra embarks on a new venture with a return to four exciting concerts at De Montfort Hall featuring four esteemed guest conductors.

Concert highlights include audience favourites such as Dvorák’s Cello Concerto, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (in a concert of centenaries), Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite and Holst’s The Planets.

Renowned soloists join the Orchestra this season too including pianists Tom Poster and Isata Kanneh-Mason.

Great friends Dvorák and Brahms feature as the Bardi open their new concert season with this exciting return. The concert starts with a burst of Mexican sunshine in Kauyumari by Gabriela Ortiz. Fast becoming a concert staple since its 2021 premier, its driving folk rhythms make the perfect opening to the Bardi’s New Horizons concert season.

A concert of centenaries, Gershwin’s favourite Rhapsody in Blue is the highlight, performed by renowned soloist Tom Poster. The concert also features centenary performances of Sibelius’ breathtaking Symphony No. 7 and Respighi’s rousing Pines of Rome as its finale. Just four years in advance of its centenary, Ravel’s ever-popular Bolero completes this varied concert.

The Bardi are delighted to welcome back international soloist Isata Kanneh-Mason to perform Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto. The concert also features a fantastic selection of Russian favourites concluding with Stravinsky’s ballet suite from The Firebird. As concert finales go, they don’t get much more impressive than this!

Gustav Holst’s monumental orchestra suite, The Planets provides an appropriate conclusion to the Bardi’s 2024/25 New Horizons concert season with its stellar portrayal of our solar system. The first half features Tchaikovsky’s revered Violin Concerto. With its tuneful melodies and virtuosic solo, the concerto is an audience favourite. A season finale not to be missed!
