PROKOFIEV Violin Concerto No. 1
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 5

In concert and in the recording studio, Esther Yoo has developed a strong bond with the Philharmonia. In this concert, Yoo turns her attention to a work written on the brink of the Russian Revolution. Prokofiev’s concerto turns convention upside down, with lyrical outer movements framing a satirical scherzo.

Emilia Hoving conducts the Philharmonia in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, in which the composer grapples with Fate on a journey from darkness to light, and in exhilarating music by Sibelius – who was deeply influenced by Tchaikovsky – charting the adventures of a legendary Finnish philanderer, Lemminkäinen.
