Changing Places toilet facility
27th August 2015
A changing and toilet facility has been installed at De Montfort Hall.
The Changing Places toilet facility is open at the hall to anyone with profound disabilities and who needs additional space and support for changing.
The room contains a hoist, an adjustable changing bed, a toilet and an adjustable wash basin - with enough space around for carers and mobility vehicles.
Changing Places facilities are part of a nationwide scheme aimed making public venues more accessible for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. This includes people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their carers, as well as people with disabilities such as motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
Often, Standard accessible toilets are not suitable due to their lack of equipment and space, meaning that people with such disabilities are often put at risk by having to be changed on the floor or indeed limited as to the access they have to certain parts of the community. If you are interested in finding out more please visit the Changing Places website: http://www.changing-places.org/ where you will also find a list of all the Changing Places facilities in Leicester.
