TCHAIKOVSKY Fantasy Overture, Romeo and Juliet
TCHAIKOVSKY Piano Concerto No. 1
PROKOFIEV Romeo and Juliet (excerpts)

Two houses, both alike in dignity… and two unashamedly melodious takes on Shakespeare’s greatest love story. Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet redefined musical romance, and gave us one of the most celebrated love themes in all music. And with his impassioned melodies, bittersweet harmonies and taut, angular rhythms, Sergei Prokofiev brought the star-cross’d lovers dancing into the 20th century. In between, superstar pianist Simon Trpceski brings his "phenomenal technique" (Daily Telegraph) to Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto.

Please note: Unfortunately Krzysztof UrbaƄski is indisposed and can no longer conduct this performance. We are very grateful to Elim Chan, winner of the 2014 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, for kindly stepping in at short notice.
