PROKOFIEV excerpts from Romeo and Juliet
MOZART Violin Concerto No. 3, K216
STRAUSS Also sprach Zarathustra

The Philharmonia is delighted to welcome back the legendary Maestro Lorin Maazel to Leicester. Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra found fame in Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film 2001: A Space Odessey, while Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet contains the equally cinematic dance number for Shakespeare’s knights, the ‘Montagues and Capulets’. This concert also introduces violinist Esther Yoo, the youngest ever prize winner at the International Sibelius Competition when she won third prize at just 16 in 2010.

Pre Concert Talk (Free): 6.15pm - 6.50pm Esther Yoo in conversation with John Florance in the DMH auditorium.
