Choir of Gray's Inn Chapel
Organist and choirmaster Christopher Bowers-Broadbent
For many years, Christopher Bowers-Broadbent organised and performed Music at Dingley’s popular Celebration of Christmas. A number of singers at those memorable evenings are now active members of Gray’s Inn Choir. They have agreed to return to Dingley for this special Advent concert.
Christopher who was appointed Gray’s Inn Organist and Choirmaster in 1983 began his musical education as a chorister at King’s College, Cambridge, later going on to study organ and composition at the Royal Academy of Music, where he became a Fellow in 1975.
Since 1973, as well as being organist in a number of Anglican churches, he has also been organist (with rare ecumenical aplomb) of the West London Synagogue – Great Britain’s first Reform Jewish congregation.
We are delighted to welcome Christopher and his Gray’s Inn choir back to Dingley, where he and his wife Deirdre founded the original Music at Dingley’s Summer School.
Music at Dingley was founded in 1985 as a summer school for young musicians but has now evolved into an annual programme of concerts and recitals by professional musicians, providing classical music of the highest professional standard in the setting of Dingley Hall, overlooking the beautiful Welland Valley. Concerts are organised by a committee of volunteers and are held throughout the year in Dingley’s Norman church, which boasts particularly good acoustics. In its unrivalled setting Music at Dingley occupies a unique position in the musical life of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
