Sir John Tomlinson bass

Opera Gala Evening

Highlights from operas by:
Mozart (Die Zauberflöte; Don Giovanni), Verdi (Macbeth), Ross ini (Il barbiere di Siviglia; La gazza ladra), Wagner (Die Walküre)

A concert featuring the UK’s leading operatic bass, Sir John Tomlinson, established as one of the all-time great interpreters of Wagner’s bass characters. In this wide ranging programme, Tomlinson’s full range of vocal colour and expression will be displayed with highlighted arias from the greatest of the operatic composers.

Light and dark are in equal measure, from the comedy of Rossini's Barber of Seville to Verdi’s passion-filled foreboding in ‘Studia in passo’ from Macbeth.

The best-known orchestral overtures and interludes also feature, from the much-adored Overture to
The Magic Flute to the epic ‘Ride of the Valkyries’.
