Truman Capote - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Join us for Literature At Lunchtime - now in its seventh year. Dr Jane Mackay explores the life, influences and themes which inspire these great writers. Dr Jane’s passion and enthusiasm continues to enthral.

Known to us perhaps more as a successful film, the novel is very different. Capote was enraged by the Hollywood sanitisation of his sometimes brutal novel. Despite its 1940s New York gloss, this is more a Henry James story, with a glamorous veneer concealing the germ of tragedy.

Come and meet the real Holly Golightly, like Capote himself, a "hick" from Alabama trying to survive in a big bad world.
