The Legendary Gypsy Queens and Kings is an extraordinary celebration of songs with some Europe’s finest Gypsy singers. During the show, 20 Roma musicians and dancers cast a spell over their audiences, with the great voices of their people and virtuoso instrumentals.
With a powerful musical flamboyance, the show gives an extraordinary and unique insight to the very soul of Gypsy music. Expect a fascinating and intoxicating diversity of real Gypsy music turning the hall into the most exciting Gypsy party ever.
The show features Macedonian Gypsy Queen Esma Redzepova, Bulgarian Mahala rocker Jony Iliev, as well as acclaimed French rumba Gitano group Kaloome. New to The Legendary Gypsy Queens and Kings this year is Romanian brass band Mahala Rai Banda, who will be performing new material especially created for this new show.
The concert has enjoyed exceptional success around the world over the past three years, including a sell-out concert at the Barbican in 2007.
“Just one verse was enough to make this the concert of the year. Promoters should be working out how to take this show on the road.” The Independent
“In a two-hour set that could have gone all night, it turned the genteel, cavernous Barbican Hall into the best Gypsy party this side of the Danube.” Guardian
“Everyone was talking about Queens and Kings – the Barbican was in party mode within the first few minutes and everybody knew it was going to be a legendary night to remember.” Songlines
