The line-up for Village India has something for everyone throughout the day - excellent folk and Indian classical music, the best in classical and Indo jazz fusion, Indian electronica, hottest DJs from the scene and BBC Radio 1, Bollywood, the best in Bhangra and much more!
The Village Stage will also feature exciting traditional and contemporary Indian dance, including vibrant folk dances from Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Assam, Punjab and Gujarat. This will make a fantastic, entertaining and educational day out for the whole family. Confirmed acts for Saturday include:
Tigerstyle
A contemporary take on all things bhangra. The master remixers perform with their full band line up.

Samay
Samay is a unique collective of musicians exploring new ways of understanding and making music. They take the traditional music of India as a base for constructing original arrangements and improvisation, incorporating jazz and various world folk styles to create a distinctive sound so far unknown to the western or eastern world.

Parthiv Gohil
Parthiv Gohil is a big name in the world of playback singing for the Bollywood film industry. He sang the title song and some backing vocals for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Devdas and more recently in Bhansali's hit film Sawaariya, amongst many others. Parthiv is one of the finest singers in the industry. In the Village India sessions, Parthiv will sing a range of popular songs filled with vibrancy, emotion and energy from the Bollywood film industry.
Hemant Chauhan
The legendary Gujarati singer in a set which demonstrates the vibrant styles of Dhua Chand and Shiv Tandav. This is great foot tapping folk music with wide audience appeal. It feels a bit like spiritually devotional folk rap from the fertile soil of the unique agriculturally rich, village life of Gujarat!
The concert also coincides with a new double CD release called ‘The Road to Gujarat’ featuring some of the best Gujarati roots folk music ever released. The new album captures some amazing performances from Hemant Chauhan and a whole host of fantastic artists from the Indian region.
Taal Vadya Kacheri Percussion Ensemble
Taal Vadya Kacheri is a vibrant percussion project led by UK tabla maestro Shahbaz Hussain Khan featuring Tabla, Ghatam, Mridangam and Sarangi Artistry, tradition, composition and power might sum up this concert. This ensemble will cook up some powerful rhythm work which will get the pulse racing.
Desi Masti
Desi Masti offer a fresh angle on contemporary, traditional and Bollywood dance. With the huge popularity of dance within the Indian film industry it was inevitable that we would program some into the festival and who better to bring that vibrant Bollywood style to the Village than Desi Masti.
Dhanyadhara: Folk Dances of India
Dhanyadhara from Baroda, India featuring twelve Folk Dancers. These performances will be full of life and colour and will add a really authentic edge to the Village. Dhanyadhara Dance Troupe will cover a wide range of traditional dances from across many different Indian regions and will give a genuine insight into the lifeblood of folk movement. The dances will include:
• Gujarat - Meyer, Tippani, Diva and Supada
• Maharashtra - Lavni
• Assam - Bihu Dance
• Rajasthan - Kalbelia, Ghoomar and Terah Talli
• Punjab – Boliyan and Giddha
Shaan Mutiyara Di
Shaan Mutiyara Di are a traditional female folk dance group. Young, fresh, original and energetic, they promote Punjabi virsa through their passion for bhangra and gidha!
