Susan Gritton and Gerald Finley join the Philharmonia’s Vaughan Williams series for a performance of the composer’s first significant large-scale orchestral work, A Sea Symphony. One of the best-known of a host of sea-related pieces being written around the same time, which included Elgar’s Sea Pictures and  Debussy’s La Mer, Vaughan Williams’s nautically-themed work has been described as “…a triumph of instinct over environment.”
